Editorial policy
These rules decide what appears on SocietyBanks and how we check it.
Independence
- We don’t take money from co-operative societies or banks. Nobody can pay to change a page, a figure or a search result.
- A society that has claimed its page can turn on a free Featured label. It adds one labelled place in search results and never changes colours, figures, records or rankings.
- If we show ads, they are labelled and kept apart from the information. Advertisers have no say over what we publish.
- Reviewers never check a society they are linked to, as a member, employee, director or relative.
No verdicts
We show facts and how they compare with a reference, such as the average for co-op banks. Each measure is marked better, worse or for context, and the Methodology explains why. We never call a society safe or unsafe, and we don’t predict whether it will fail.
Sources
- Status and registration details come from the National Cooperative Database. Lists of multi-state societies in liquidation or not filing returns come from the Central Registrar of Cooperative Societies. Averages come from the Reserve Bank of India, and deposit cover rules from DICGC and state schemes.
- Every figure shows its source and the date we checked it. We keep a copy of each public record we show.
- Sources lists each source and how often we check it.
Annual reports
Members of the public and societies upload annual reports. Before any figure appears:
- A reviewer checks that the report belongs to that society and that year, that it includes the auditor’s report, and that its figures agree with each other.
- The reviewer enters or confirms each figure and notes its page number.
- Once approved, that year’s figures are locked. Changing them needs a recorded reason.
How we use AI
- AI may suggest figures from an annual report. A person checks every figure before it is published.
- Ask law uses AI to answer only from the text of the Act we hold, and every answer cites its sections. A lawyer checks a set of test questions before it goes live. It gives general information, not legal advice.
- AI may suggest spelling fixes for society names. A person accepts or rejects each one, and the registered name is always kept.
- Our guides are written by people.
Guides
Each guide names its author and fact-checker, lists its sources, and shows a date by which we will check it again.
