About
SocietyBanks is a free, independent website that explains India’s co-operative societies and co-operative banks in plain words, and puts their public information in one open place.
Why it exists
Co-operatives hold the savings of millions of members, yet the facts about them are hard to find. They sit in government databases, official lists and annual report PDFs that few people ever see. We gather those facts, check them and explain what they mean, so anyone can understand how a co-op is doing and how co-operatives work.
What you can learn here
- A society’s registration details and its status: functional, dormant or in liquidation
- Whether it appears on official lists, such as multi-state societies in liquidation
- How deposit insurance and state schemes work, and who they cover
- Figures from annual reports, checked by a person and compared with the average for co-op banks
- FD rates, with where and when we saw them
- What co-operative law says, with the sections quoted
- Guides on how co-operatives and their deposits work
Every figure shows its source and the date we checked it. Our Methodology explains each measure, and Sources lists where the data comes from.
What we don’t do
- We don’t take deposits, sell financial products or give investment advice.
- We don’t call any society safe or unsafe, and we don’t rank them.
- We don’t take money from societies. Everything on the site is free.
- We are not part of the government, RBI, DICGC or any registrar of co-operative societies.
